The 14-inch LED-backlit display (1366 x 768 pixels) presents true 16:9 aspect ratio with high-def resolution and fast 8ms (millisecond) response time for high-quality media playback as well as increased readability in low-light conditions. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (providing up to 1700 MB of video memory as allocated by the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out.

Offering the latest in ultra-low voltage processing power, the single-core Intel Pentium SU2700 has a has a power consumption rating of just 10 watts and a 1.3 GHz speed that's paired with a fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Designed for use in ultra-thin laptops to balance the competing needs of high performance with battery consumption, the Pentium SU2700 features Intel SpeedStep technology, helping your system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease power consumption and heat production. It also comes with built-in Execute Disable Bit technology, which helps keep your laptop safe from viruses, worms, and other malicious attacks.
 | A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more. The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse. |
The
Acer Timeline notebook series includes
Acer's ComfyTouch technology, which uses an innovative Laminar Wall Jet Engine design to air-cool the processor and notebook case. Even when running for a full day the notebook remains cool in your hands or on your lap.
The Timeline family of notebooks also includes a backup button that lets you easily select and protect your irreplaceable digital files through regular scheduled backups or on an as-needed basis. Data can be backed up to an external hard drive, flash card, thumb drive or to a secure hidden partition on their PC.
While most notebooks with long battery life use higher cell batteries which protrude from the back of the notebook,
Acer combined numerous low power components with a standard high-capacity 6-cell battery, allowing them to keep the design as small as possible.
In addition, a conveniently located PowerSmart button located above the keyboard allows you to easily extend battery life. A simple press of the button activates the advanced power savings settings, traditionally a tedious procedure accessed through numerous software-based steps. This one-button approach simplifies the process.
Lastly, an Acer PowerSmart adapter senses when the notebook is unplugged, and stops sending needless energy. It also stops pulling power from the wall outlet when the adapter is full. The PowerSmart adapter saves 1752 watts of energy a year--equivalent to lighting a 15-watt (65W equivalent) light bulb for 116 days.

Customer Reviews
Excellent Laptop for the $$$$
Pros:
-Bright LED Backlit screen.
-Very light and portable.
-Cool on your lap and quiet.
-DVD Burner.
-HDMI output.
-Solid battery life (5+ hours real world).
-Runs programs much better than Netbooks...heck, it has Vista pre-installed, it has to be powerful.
Cons:
-Bloatware! Tons of useless things installed...20+ trial games.
-Backup DVD's didn't burn.
-Almost zero documentation. Had to figure out on my own what all the flashing lights were.
This is the perfect combination of netbook & laptop. It has the price of a high-end netbook, with the performance of a laptop. It won't run 5 programs at once, burn a DVD, and render a movie at the same time, but it will do each of these by themselves with zero problems.
The screen is unbelievable. Very bright. You can't run it on the highest setting in the dark because it is blinding.
Battery life is very solid for the size of the battery. A lot of laptops have really big batteries attached to them to get long life. This computer doesn't have a big battery, but lasts a very long time. It has a battery management system pre-installed that does the same thing as Windows 7 RC. I turned it off and just used Windows 7.
Overall, this computer can't be beaten for the price. I have used/owned Apple laptops in the past. With Windows 7 running, this computer is better than any Mac at half the price...now, if only we could get rid of the crapware.
Great laptop to take with you everywhere
First of all, you have to accept that there will be no "perfect" laptop unless you have a deep pocket. Yes, I would love to have a machine that gives me the best of everything but then, I would spend a lot more than this. My first laptop was a Toshiba Satellite M35X and it kept me on my nerves because the battery life was a miserable 2+ hr. I could not use the energy saving mode to work either because the screen would be too dim in any lit environment. I had to make sure I always shuts it down when taking a break and I had to charge it 3 times a day if not more often. It drove me nuts! And I eventually give up on taking it with me due to the Toshiba's 6+ lb weight. And to top it off, I paid over $900 for it!
So I finally decided that I have had enough with the Satellite and I learned my lessons. For my 2nd laptop, I decided to stick to what matters to me the most -- the weight and battery life. I was thrilled when the Timeline came to the market because all the light and thin and long battery life laptops just cost way more than I am willing to pay for. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the portability of this Acer Timeline 4810TZ. I only charge the battery once a day and I leave the cords at home. I am so relieved not having to be concerned about the battery level constantly. In energy saving mode the screen is still sharp and bright. I installed Visual Studio to do my programming work and it runs fine. It's very quiet and stays cool. (my Satellite was by no means noisy but the fan was annoying, and any laptop that runs hot should be a concern to you, my co-worker's HP was designed for cooking and it cooked itself to death in just over a year!) The sound quality is fine. Don't forget to update the video driver if yours comes with an older version or you might experience the problems mentioned in the other review. I have had this laptop for almost 3 months and the keys are just fine. I feel it's well built and looks elegant. Overall, this laptop is a great buy and if you need more processing power and can afford a little more (about $300 at time of this review), go for the model with the SU9400 processor. If you are not certain about Acer's reliability, your best bet will be to buy a 2 year old model because you just don't know what issues a new model might have. My Toshiba had a class action suit due to many many problems and wasn't Toshiba a decent brand? This is why now my strategy for computers is to spend the least for what I need and not overbuy. This way I can afford to upgrade more often regardless of my "luck" with any model.
Not Windows 7 Friendly.
I needed something i can move around and the same time have some power behind it. I love the LED Screen, and the battery life is amazing (although you need to give up some power to do so), and the HDMI is a plus in my book.
PS.
Item qualifies for Windows 7 Upgrade 64 bit English Edition!
------------------UPDATE WINDOWS 7 INSTALLATION-------------------------
Please beware, the DVD drive does not function properly with this lap top after Windows 7 Installation. There seems to be some bugs for Windows 7 64 bit. I was required to delete scripts, enter the command prompt, and still no luck. Tech support stump, and from simple Google searches many people experience same problem. I recommend if you buy this lap top you maintain on keeping Windows Vista and not venturing into Windows 7.
