Product Description
You'll love the versatility of Lenovo IdeaPad Y Series notebooks. There's something for everyone, from the easy portability and unique look of the Y510 and its 15.4'' widescreen. All Y Series notebooks are powered by Intel Core2 Duo processors for impressive performance. And they can be loaded with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium, Microsoft's latest operating system, ideal for home/home office users. An integrated 1.3 megapixel camera and Lenovo's VeriFace face recognition software can make your face your password and help control access to your notebook by recognizing when you are sitting at the keyboard, even recording the faces of others who try to access your system. The Dolby Home Theater premium audio system gives amazing, theater-style sound. An elegantly designed Multimedia Control Center offers a one-stop, total entertainment environment, with a convenient Shuttle Key that puts volume and equalizer controls within easy reach. An innovative Frameless Screen gives these notebooks a unique, clean appearance, with a glossy screen surface that extends to the very edges of the top cover. Additional multimedia functions (see Multimedia Control Center, above) are available via "hidden" touch-sensitive controls placed across the top of the keyboard. The Lenovo "touch" even extends to a full-size keyboard - similar to that on legendary ThinkPad notebooks - that gives great feel on each key-press. Best of all, these high quality, dependable notebooks help you focus on what you can achieve with your PC - not just how it works.

The Best Laptop I Have Owned
I have always owned a Sony laptop in the past and did not think I would ever switch. Then last year I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad. I always wanted an IBM thinkpad, and could not believe how cheap it was. It was true to form and a lovely little laptop, but it still lacked the bright Sony Screen.
When I saw the specs on this new Thinkpad I was excited at the possibilities - a huge RAM and Harddrive, but I must admit I was a bit worried about the screen.
Needless to say when my machine arrived I was excited to find that Lenovo had far exceeded my expectations. This machine is FAST, the screen so bright I turned the brightness down, and the face recognition a handy feature that stops you having to type in your password all the time. The whole style and design is awesome, with lots of controls to change settings or control volume and playback. Even the case and lid design make it look a really fancy machine.
The Vista version is the latest, and I found some software working on this machine that I could not get to work on my Desktop machine. I had no problem with programs like CS3 which are normally resource intensive, and no crashes in Vista. I might even get to like Vista after getting this computer.
And the price? Unbelievable for the quality I received. It even has little things that other brands lack - like printed documentation and backup disks. All round I believe this is the best laptop I have ever owned.
Review of IdeaPad Y510
I have received my ideapad y510 and its pretty cool. I was concerned about the glare of the screen but it turned out to be trivial, if any at times. What I didn't like was the speakers, when I heard that the laptop had a sub woofer built in, I got all excited but, the speakers didn't do it for me. It didn't matter how much I tweaked the settings they just didn't have any power to them. Get some external speakers and you'll be fine. Other than that the machine is working fine. It does what I need it to do without breaking a sweat.
Great Budget Student Laptop
I bought this laptop on Black Friday 2008 for 500 dollars. The specs are good, and the battery life lasts a good 3-4 hours (on low power setting). I got this laptop for word processing and internet, as I already own a decent desktop. If you want to play games on your laptop, I wouldn't recommend it, seeing how the graphics card is on the lower end of the spectrum. The logon screen, which uses the VeriFace technology, is new to me. What VeriFace does is recognize your facial features, and then uses it to enable you to log on to Windows by just showing your face. It works perfectly if you're trying to log on in a well-lit room, but without great lighting you can still log on using the password feature. The laptop is a tad on the heavier side, but feels sturdy (a good tradeoff in my book), which is good for people who move around with their laptops.
Wouldn't recommend for gamers, but if you're looking for a budget laptop with newer technology and good durability, this would be a safe buy.
