This TV is Simply Outstanding!
After shopping online and in retail 'big box' stores for over 6 weeks, I decided to make the plunge and purchase the Philips 47" LCD 1080p HDTV with Ambilight Technology - and I can honestly say this is the most amazing TV I have ever owned. The Ambilight feature brings a nice extra dimension to the HDTV viewing experience - it's hard to describe unless you view the demo on Philip's website, or can see one in action at a retail store. The picture with high-quality HDMI cables, HD programs, and DVD's with upconvert/upscaling is amazing. Set up is a snap. You will not be disappointed. I looked at everything out there - Vizio, JVC, Sony, Toshiba, and Philips can't be beat on this one. Our last TV was a Vizio 47" and after 2 warranty calls and numerous issues I would never own another Vizio product again. One more note: don't waste your money on those ridiculously expensive 'Monster' HDMI cables at the box stores such as Best Buy, etc. - I ordered 2 sets of amazing quality HDMI cables through a company called RIX Labs in San Francisco on ebay - these cables are longer and far superior to the same ones you can purchase at Best Buy for $150 - the ones from RIX Labs are a fraction of the price. Great deal !
Very Thoughtful Audio Design Makes Philips The Winner
I am 69 years old live in a Senior Residence, not assisted living, and have a moderate to severe hearing loss. In order not to disturb my neighbors I use AKG-K701 headphones to hear the TV. If you know headphones, these are world class and expensive. After considerable research I chose the Philips 47PFL7432D. I am thrilled with my selection. Philips, thoughtfully, provides a separate volume control for the headphone jack. The audio quality through the AKGs is exceptional. It is far superior to the 27' Samsung HDTV, which has a separate headphone controls, that I am replacing. The large screen Samsung and Sony sets also have headphone jacks but when used, the external speakers are disabled. Under that scenario I could not very well share the experience of the large screen with my daughter who has no hearing loss. I want to thank the technical writers at Samsung and Sony who were considerate enough to include the speaker disbling information in their manuals. But their engineers get a thumbs down for not including the separate volume control. A big Boo to all those manufacturers who do not even include a headphone jack.
Beyond the audio the Philips folks have done a fine job of making this a very user friendly product. I am very impressed with Ambilight. Other reviewers have lauded the picture quality. My intention is to shine a light for those who either have a hearing impairment or live in an apartment where loud audio sounds will not engender peaceful coexistence.
Best TV for under $2000
After having a very bad experience with a Sharp 46 LCD 1080p. I am finally satisfied with this Gem of a TV. Bright Sharp picture and great viewing range for an LCD, Sound is only so so but I did not buy a TV for its sound quaility, I have nice surround system for that. 3 HDMI 1080p inputs and ambient lighting, which adjusts and compliments the colors on the screen. This feature works best when the unit mounted on a white wall with the lights off.
I Purchased this TV at Best Buy for $1969.
This is my second Philips TV. I have a 32" 720p in the bedroom that performs brilliantly.
